How Garmin inReach Mini 2 Helpful in Search & Rescue
The new and improved Garmin inReach® Mini 2 is as compact as it is intelligent, brimming with satellite communication features and a long-life battery to keep your adventure alive for longer.
Stay in touch via the globally-reaching Iridium satellite network. With two-way messaging you can update friends and family, enjoy reliable navigation features, and, in a worst-case scenario, use the SOS functionality for emergency assistance.
The Garmin inReach Mini 2-Way Satellite Network
Any Garmin device that utilizes inReach technology means it is harnessing the power and reach of the world’s only truly global satellite network: Iridium. inReach in the Mini 2 means emergency SOS calls or two-way custom messaging can take place from any location on the planet, so device carriers can take to the slopes, trails, or other isolated regions safe in the knowledge that help is just a button press away.
Service Plans
To access the Iridium network and communicate with inReach devices, an active satellite subscription is required. Depending on usage levels, users can opt for plans with different inclusive messages each month. Each with 30-day minimum terms and £25 activation fees, the plans available are:
Safety Plan | light/occasional users or for emergency use
- £19/month
- Unlimited SOS
- Up to 10 Text Messages
- or 100 Tracking Points
Recreation Plan | frequent users sending regular messages/track points
- £32/month
- Unlimited SOS
- Up to 60 Text Messages
- or 600 Tracking Points
Expedition Plan | heavy users sending a high number of text messages and/or track points
- £58/month
- Unlimited SOS
- Up to 250 Text Messages
- or 2,250 Tracking Points
Mini User Interface
Using the Garmin inReach Mini 2 is designed to be as easy as possible, particularly if there is an active emergency taking place. The user interface itself has been slightly refined since the original inReach Mini satellite communicator. More useful information including remaining battery percentage is displayed on the upgraded display screen, and on-device text threads resemble more familiar smartphone style text threads.
Reliable Two-Way Messaging
Being able to send and receive messages while out in the wild is critically important and provides invaluable peace of mind. The Garmin inReach Mini 2 is everything short of a full-blown satellite phone (voice calls aren’t included), with SMS, custom SOS, and email all available. With such reliable two-way communication functionality, users can send and receive text messages to and from loved ones back home, post social media updates, or communicate inReach-to-inReach in the field.
Other inReach Mini Functions
As well as the key communication and navigation features that come with the powerful inReach Mini 2, it is also capable of the following:
- Location Sharing
