Send an SMS to a Satellite Phone

Iridium, Inmarsat and Thuraya satellite phones can receive plain text messages sent by email. As long as the satellite phone has an active SIM card and valid phone number, you can send a short message using the simple instructions below.

Iridium

  • Open a new plain text email, not an HTML email.
  • Send the email to the satellite phone number using the Iridium messaging service.

Send a message to compatible Iridium devices including the Iridium 9555, Iridium 9575 Extreme, Iridium Extreme PTT and Thrane LT-3100.

Inmarsat

  • Open a new plain text email, not an HTML email.
  • Send the email to satellitephonenumber@message.inmarsat.com.
  • For example: 87077XXXXXXX@message.inmarsat.com.

Send an SMS through the Inmarsat network to compatible devices such as the IsatPhone 2.

Thuraya

  • Open a new plain text email, not an HTML email.
  • Send the email to satellitephonenumber@sms.thuraya.com.
  • For example: 88216XXXXXXX@sms.thuraya.com.

Send an SMS through the Thuraya network to compatible devices including the Thuraya XT-Lite, XT-PRO, XT-PRO Dual, SatSleeve Hotspot and X5 Touch.

Thuraya Messaging

Globalstar

  • Enter the recipient’s Globalstar satellite phone number.
  • Use a 10-digit number for USA and Canada, an 11-digit number for Europe, or a 12-digit number for Latin America and Brazil.
  • Enter your message in the relevant message field.

Handheld Globalstar phones support short messages, while the Sat-Fi system supports full SMS messaging.
