general inquiries

Iridium Certus® is the high speed voice and data service made possible by Iridium's $3 billion second generation constellation, Iridium NEXT.  Iridium Certus® will be the only high speed data service which is available anywhere on the planet.

Iridium has announced the new Iridium Certus® 700 service which provides advancements to marine and land communications with data speeds of up to 704 kbps. Additionally, Streaming IP services allows broadcasters to transmit live from anywhere in the world at a guaranteed speed up to 256 kbps.

Ou terminals operating with Iridium Certus® can utilise the Iridium network for global communications, including multiple voice lines on hardware allowing multiple team members to stay in touch simultaneously. Our land and marine solutions can be easily integrated with existing equipment on board any vessel or vehicle.

In May 2018 Iridium announced the groundbreaking news that the IMO has recognised that the Certus service meets requirements to provide mobile satellite services in the GMDSS. This is the first time that any provider other than Inmarsat has been able to offer these services.  Iridium will begin to provide the GMDSS service in early 2020. Additionally, the Iridium Certus® service is compatible with the Aeronautical Mobile Satellite Route Service (AMSRS).

While existing Iridium equipment will continue to function with the new Iridium NEXT constellation, owners of existing equipment will not be able to use the improved data speeds or other new features of Iridium Certus®.  New products will be launched to enable users to take advantage of the faster data speeds and simultaneous voice lines.

The SAILOR 4300 by Cobham (pictured left) is one example - a compact, lightweight antenna which can be used in the harshest of maritime environments. It offers three independent voice lines and data speeds of up to 704 kbps.  As you would expect from Cobham the quality of build is so high that there is no scheduled service interval and no maintenance for at least 10 years after installation - an important factor to take into account for vessels continuously at sea.

The Thales VesseLINK (picture left) is a global marine terminal that has been upgraded to use the Iridium Certus®® and enable global coverage for data speeds and operation any where in the world! The Thales VesseLINK omidirectional terminal provides 3 high-quality voice lines and streaming speeds up to 256kbps in martime environments.

VesseLINK will also keep crews connected anywhere in the world to friends and family back home as well as enhances the operations of the vessels. The terminal assists with service logging, system monitoring and weather forecasts.

This terminal is suitable for ships or fleets or any size and has an intuitive and user-friendly interface. The VesseLINK can easily integrate with your existing equipment on board, to fully digitalise your vessel.

The advancements to Iridium Certus® provide superior connectivity for crew welfare, messaging and phone calls.

Workboats

Iridium Certus® offers workboats the reliable and consistent connectivity they need. Tugs, tows, supply vessels, crew transport, and dredgers work in environments where other options often “go dark” due to congestion, regulations, or blockage. The unique cross-linked architecture of the Iridium network allows communications to travel above the earth, enabling consistent bandwidth in harbors, near ports, on the high seas and at the edge of coverage for other networks.

Commerical Fishing

Iridium Certus® provides a solutions for handling catch information, monitoring weather and communicating across fleets in any region of the world. Additionally, existing VSAT processors can be augmented with Iridium Certus® to extend their reach beyond existing VSAT coverage.

OffShore

Iridium Certus® enables higly-reliable connectivity for attened and autonomous platforms, rigs and buoys through a consistently connected and tied into a corporate network. Unattended sensors can easily realize strong, always-on connections through Iridium Certus® anywhere on the planet.

Leisure

Yachts, sailboats, and other recreational boats can now benefit from the global connectivity, high-quality, and value of Iridium Certus®. Now, leisure mariners can take advantage of Iridium Certus® high-speed L-Band connectivity.

Government

Research vessels, scientific ships, fisheries vessels, seismic ships, coast guard cutters, ice breakers, and other government ships rely on the Iridium network for low-latency communications around the world. Iridium Certus® expands the opportunities for this market with higher speed connectivity solutions.

Land

Iridium Certus® offers fixed voice and data terminals suitable for use on remote sites and vehicles. Users can communicate using data or voice calls to personnel using equipment and track vehicles or machinery.

Aviation

Compact antennas make Iridium Certus®' aviation offering suitable for all types of aircraft allowing voice and internet access from cockpit to cabin.

Initial Iridium Certus® service plans are flexible with a minimum term of just 3 months and no activation fee.  With the faster data speeds now available data will be charged per MB rather than the per minute pricing structure currently available. Static and dynamic IP addresses will also be available.

The tables below show the different service levels and data speeds available.
