CASE STUDY: Kymeta provides Connectivity for Two-Day Disaster Response Exercise
Kymeta partnered with Redmond Fire Service to demonstrate the benefits of their advanced flat-panel connectivity during emergency response situations. In fact, the exercise provided essential communications in a range of environments and field operations where deployment speed and high mobility are critical factors.
Kymeta Technology
The Kymeta flat-panel technology combines satellite connectivity and cellular networks, to satisfy the overwhelming demand for global mobile connectivity. The U7 terminal offers lightweight and high-throughput communications, without additional mechanical components to steer toward a satellite. In fact, the kymeta technology can seamless integrate with existing devices and mounted on any vehicle, vessel, or fixed platform.Kymeta Connectivity for Two-Day Disaster Response Exercise
As a partner of the Two-day long exercise, Kymeta supported the event with a hybrid connectivity solution. The U7 flat panel terminals were installed on numerous vehicles to support this response exercise. A fire battalion commander’s vehicle, medical response vehicle, and large mobile emergency command center vehicle all integrated with Kymeta technology. The Kymeta terminal enabled response teams to communicate via new mediums, including voice and video phone calls and image transfer during the simulated outages. Additionally, three rounds of drills and activities aimed to challenge reaction and response times. Teams faced cases of limited technology, transitional access to technology and then access to advanced high technology. The Future for Kymeta and Emergency Response Services
By partnering with the City of Redmond, Kymeta demonstrated how connectivity solutions are essential for resilient communications in emergency situations. Kymeta is looking forward to further developing its relationship with the City of Redmond. We can’t control an unexpected natural disaster,” he continued, “but we can prepare to mitigate for a communications breakdown and how to respond through exercises such as this.” Ben Posthuma, Kymeta Product Manager for Advanced Connectivity.
“Reliability during an emergency is life-critical access - to get people to a hospital, get access to medication, or connect individuals to essential services. Connectivity is the first element of response operation.” Dr. Pattijean Hooper, Emergency Manager at the City of Redmond.
